Good luck and best wishes: Jude Bellingham

Jude Bellingham became the youngest Blues debutant at the age of 16 years 38 days at Portsmouth in the league cup back in August last year.  Less than twelve months later (although it seems much longer) he has become the world’s most expensive 17 year old moving to Borussia Dortmund. There were signs in his debut of  the potential to come with a mature man of the match performance in a losing cause.

His league debut followed later that month and he became Blues youngest goal scorer at the age of 16 years 63 days against Stoke at the end of August.  Since then he has become a regular in the team playing over 40 games in a variety of positions and impressing with his maturity, skill and adaptability.  One of his last contributions for the club was to create the late goal against Charlton which has been vital in our relegation struggle.

In former times he might have become a linchpin in building a team to challenge for promotion but in the modern game and considering Blues position it became inevitable that he would be sold on at the end of the season to develop further.  It is to his, his family’s and Blues’ credit that his move has generated a significant transfer fee to the club that hopefully can be re-invested well to move the club significantly forward.

Have we seen the last of Jude in a Blues shirt? Arjen Robben has recently returned to the club who developed him, Groningen, to help them out at the end of his career – perhaps one day Jude might do the same.

Meanwhile thanks for everything this season Jude and good luck at Dortmund – we’ll be watching with interest!
