FSA: Brown – Time For An Independent Regulator

9 Jan 2023 | 5 comments

Former-prime minister and now UN envoy Gordon Brown has spoken out on the risks facing football and the need for a regulator to “speak for supporters.”  Brown, who was chancellor of the Exchequer from 1997 to 2007 and prime minister from 2007-2010, is the latest political figure to back the creation of an independent regulator – one of the key recommendations of the Fan-led Review.

Didn’t see anyone calling for independent regulators when sky tv took over football and some foreign owners saw it as a way to make a fortune and ignore completely the concern of supporters especially from the lower leagues ,because on the back of it rich people have got richer premier league has got richer and the supporter has got ripped off in many cases by clubs there his a saying after the horse has bolted kro

I must admit this has got my back up where was Gordon brown when bury went out of business where was he when Birmingham city were being ripped apart by Carson yeung and our money was being taken to the far east to prop up Chinese law breakers ,these people were enjoying freebies from the premier league and UEFA and didn’t give a hoot about the football if it wasn’t so hypocritical I could laugh

I suppose it’s better late then never. However there needs to be an in-depth analysis of all
current owners and a re-assessment of their status. In addition previous owners should also be investigated to discover what due diligence was carried out by them before their club was sold. This is particularly relevant when it was later discovered that the new owners we not ‘fit and proper’.

Well said bill you are dead right ,we could be punished again by the efl and it was the efl who passed the present owners as fit and proper,I would like to know who regulates the premier league and the efl because the whole system is in chaos and clubs like ours are the ones who suffer
