Supporters Direct

Blues Trust is proud to be a member of Supporters Direct.  Its mission is to promote good governance in sport and enable the development of sustainable clubs based on supporters involvement and community ownership.

Supporters Direct has been working since 2000 to help supporters gain influence in the running and ownership of their club. Since their formation they’ve helped establish over 200 supporters trusts in the UK, with more than 50 now owning and running their club. Many others have meaningful involvement through board representation, structured dialogue or campaigning. Members have raised more than £50 million to be reinvested back into their clubs and communities including £6 million through community shares projects. They use their unique position to develop policies and research to help improve sport. They are owned by supporters trusts and community owned clubs.

The best way to describe Supporters Direct is to show below a quote from their own website “About Us” page.  Their website is here.

“What we do

Supporters Direct has been working since 2000 to help supporters gain influence in the running and ownership of their club. In the last fifteen years we have helped our members to establish over 185 trusts in the UK and we have worked with supporters to purchase and develop more than 50 community owned clubs. We have supported these members in raising more than £50 million to be reinvested back into their clubs and communities including £6 million through community shares projects; an area where we are market leaders.

Why we exist

We exist because we are needed: The game can be better run and should be more responsive to the needs of its fans and local communities.

How we do it

We do it by sharing the experience of supporters’ trusts & community owned clubs across the game, helping them to speak with one voice so that they can challenge & change the way that clubs and the game behaves.

What makes us different

We are from the grassroots and we operate as insiders. This allows us to work within the game, with government and others, whilst being a positive influence and a credible voice with the movement that we serve.

Our Mission Statement

To promote good governance in sport and enable the development of sustainable clubs based on supporters involvement and community ownership.
