After months of speculation it was announced this morning that the club’s owners, Knighthead, have acquired the 48-acre former Wheels site in Bordesley Park. Knighthead plan to develop the site into a Sports Quarter which will include a new stadium and training facilities for all Birmingham City teams. The announcement makes clear the intention to relocate away from St. Andrew’s at some point in the future.

The significance of the decision to acquire the Wheels site and set out the plans for it’s use cannot be overstated. This is an exciting, indeed momentous, development which charts a new course for the Blues. At a time when most supporters are twitching anxiously about the current fight against relegation, the bigger picture is now full of hope and ambition after years of neglect under previous regimes.

It is expected that more information about the club’s plans will be shared at the Open House session with fans at St. Andrew’s tonight. Neil Cottrell, Chair of Blues Trust has been invited. We will share our thoughts on the meeting in the coming days.
