Midweek Pinboard 28 Sept 2023
Well? What do you think of events at the Blues this past week? And what are your expectations for the upcoming fixtures? Whether it is about results, performances or developments off the pitch, here is an opportunity to share your views on the week that has just been for BCFC and also to look ahead to the weekend.
Blues Trust will be posting the Pinboard every Thursday morning so that Blues fans can express opinions, good and bad, about progress as the season unfolds. And your thoughts for the fixtures coming up.
We hope you’ll participate, and maybe sometimes even start a conversation, by letting us and other Blues fans know what you think……

Did anyone else see the article about Fulham FC in the national press yesterday? It seems they will be charging £160 and £80 (for juniors) for some seats at their upcoming game against Manchester United. Yes, that’s right. £160 and £80! And it’s a 12.30ko too. No wonder the highly regarded Fulham Supporters Trust and other fans of the club were spitting tacks.
I was still trying to get my head around the story when my inbox pinged and up popped an email from BCFC encouraging me to visit the Club shop and treat myself to new leisurewear. A new range of tee shirts are available. To be fair, they suited my tastes until I saw that they were priced at £30. £30 for a cotton tee shirt? Surely they were having a laugh? That’s 50% more than similar shirts already in the store.
Now I completely understand that the club needs revenue to help finance growth and improvements. I get that. And, as someone who attends all home matches, I want to do my bit as and when I can. But there is a line between loyal support and exploitation and this felt to me like the club was crossing that line. I’m lucky. As things stand at the moment I could stretch to buying a tee shirt from the new range if I wanted to. Many fellow Bluenoses won’t be in the same position I’m sure. But I won’t, and I shan’t, be visiting the Club shop anytime soon to pay for overpriced garments that we all know cost a fraction of their retail price to produce. Even if they do carry the Nike swoosh. Seems to me the Americanisation of our club has well and truly begun.
Have a rethink Blues.
What a symbolic state our training has now become. Further injuries galore with serious questions now vitally important. Tom Brady needs to very quickly intervene here and get sensible pros in. Henley is fast becoming a casualty centre. It has to end.
Shambolic not symbolic.
